Sports Massage

Sports massage is one of the oldest and most effective forms of remedial therapy.

And sports massage is for everyone, not just athletes:

  • Muscular tension can build up in the body as a result of poor posture, lifestyle habits, repetitive tasks and emotional stress.
  • Injuries can occur even from such simple daily tasks as gardening or lifting children.

Sports massage corrects bodily imbalances by manipulating and rehabilitating muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia to reduce muscle tension, alleviate stress and restore balance to the musculoskeletal system.

Use Sports Massage to:

Support your training:

  • Sports massage can be used pre-workout to improve your training sessions – and significantly reduce delayed onset muscle soreness.
  • With Sports massage as a regular preventative treatment, you can train more often with less chance of injury.
  • After a strong workout, tired muscles are naturally depleted of nutrients and accumulate a build up of biological waste products. Muscle tears can develop on a microscopic level, which can lead to serious injury if left unaddressed. Massage gets fresh blood into tired areas to prevent the micro tears from developing further.
  • At all levels of sport, massage is a necessity rather than a luxury as it ensures muscles are in peak condition and irons out any niggles which may develop into injuries.

Heal injury:

Chronic muscle tension or injury reduces blood flow and limits range of motion in the affected areas, which causes inflammation and pain. Sports massage can help reduce the discomfort of muscle soreness, while increasing flexibility, thereby speeding up the healing process.

Reduce anxiety, stress and depression:

The power of touch has many physiological benefits. The energy that flows through the fingers of a skilful massage therapist feeds through to the countless nerve endings under the skin, which reduces stress and induces relaxation. This improves sleep, accelerating the body’s ability to repair and therefore speed its recovery.

In my experience, so many issues can be resolved through soft tissue work. Sports massage is also extremely effective as part of a wider treatment plan, backed up with movement therapy. That’s why, to expedite results, I’ll often prescribe a few corrective movement exercises after a massage session.

  • Enhances training and competitive performance
  • Myofascial release can dissipate scar tissue after surgery or injury
